JSUNAA Alumnus of the Year Award

Purpose of the Award

The Alumnus of the Year Award is the highest honor bestowed upon members of Jackson State University National Alumni Association. The hallmark of each recipient is a unique distinction of personal achievements; and the unselfish giving of time, talents, and resources to alumni-related activities through an active chapter in good standing. This is complemented by personal contributions made to support the mission and purpose of both the University and the Alumni Association.

 

Criteria for Eligibility

  • Fifteen (15) year bachelor degree graduate of Jackson State University;
  • Be an active financial member in his/her local chapter (where one exists) and the National Alumni Association, Inc. of Jackson State University;
  • Render significant service to the University, to the National Alumni Association, and to the local chapter as outlined below (service will be verified by the Awards Committee).

Note:  Nominees may be contacted by the JSUNAA Awards Committee to verify data on accompanying documentation if needed.

 

Supporting Documentation

The submission must be accompanied by supporting documents that support the following contributions or services to:

  • Jackson State University
  • Identify any programs/initiatives developed or collaborated on either locally, regionally or nationally
  • List any University committee participation
  • List any financial contributions to the University
  • Jackson State University National Alumni Association, Inc.
    • List any offices held (do not include committee chair/co-chair positions)
    • List any JSUNAA committee participation
    • Identify any programs/initiatives developed or collaborated on either locally, regionally or nationally
    • List any financial contributions to the University
  • The local alumni chapter
    • List any offices held (do not include committee chair/co-chair positions)
  • The local community
    • List any service contributions done to highlight the University or JSUNAA either locally, regionally or nationally
  • Student Recruitment
    • List any participation in local area career/college fairs
    • List any recruiting visits to local area schools and/or any personal referrals of qualified prospective students to the University
    • List any active participation in JSU’s high school/Jr College day or involvement in bringing students to JSU
  • List any active involvement in recruiting activities outside of your local area
  • List any student recruitment training received and/or any student recruitment workshop or training you provided to other alums/groups
  • Provide details (date and location) of active involvement in fundraising projects for the local chapter, JSUNAA or Jackson State University

Previous nominees must re-submit a nomination form with the supporting documents.

 

Guidelines

  • Nominations will be accepted through April 30, 2017.  Recipients will be notified by June 30, 2017.
  • Nominations may be made by another alumni member or the individual.  If the nominator is not the nominee, please include the nominee in the application process in order to get complete and accurate information.
  • Submit the nomination application, resume, narrative, and appropriate supporting documentation.
  • An electronic confirmation will be sent within five (5) business days of submission.  If you do not receive a confirmation, please contact Daphne Marshall-Moore (ude.s1513163622musj@1513163622eroom1513163622.l.en1513163622hpad1513163622) to confirm receipt of your nomination package.

 

Alumnus of the Year Award Recognition

The recipient will be recognized at various designated events each year.  Each recipient will receive a personal award.  The official announcement of the recipient will be at a signature event of the JSUNAA, Inc. Recipients may also be recognized at the following events:

  • Ride in the JSU Homecoming parade
  • Recognized at the Homecoming Pre-game Show
  • JSUNAA Annual Fall Council Meeting

Note:  The Office of Alumni and Constituency Relations will be responsible for coordinating the process and ensuring that the recipients are prepared for the events.
